The prime function of this role is to provide bookkeeping services to the clients of this Chartered Accountants in Letchworth, mainly at in-house and occasionally at client’s premises.

The ideal candidate would have worked within a Chartered Accountancy practice and have experience of Management Accounts.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Balancing accounts

- Processing sales invoices, receipts and payments

- Processing purchase invoices

- Completing VAT returns

- Completing CIS returns

- Checking company bank statements and reconciling

- Maintaining fixed asset registers

- Preparing Management Accounts and supporting schedules

- Dealing with prepayments and accruals

- Preparing year end files for the Accountants

- Prepare appropriate schedules and reports as requested by Clients and Directors.

- Dealing with financial paperwork and filing

- Being able to communicate at all levels

- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

The role involves travel to and from client’s premises on an occasional basis and therefore being able to drive would be an advantage.

SKILLS REQUIRED

- An ability to work quickly and accurately

- An eye for detail

- An ability to work to deadlines

- An ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism

- Good computer skills (especially with databases and financial software)

- An ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in English

- Must be able to keep client matters strictly confidential

- Useful qualifications include specialist qualifications such as AAT for example

SCOPE OF POSITION

Our office hours are 37.5 hours Monday to Friday, between 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. however our core hours are 9.30 a.m. to 12.00 noon and 14.00 p.m. to 16.00 p.m. so there is a degree of flexibility. Your lunch break may be taken at any time between 12.00 noon and 2.00 p.m., for a minimum of half an hour. In additional to your normal hours you may have a morning or afternoon off per calendar month using flexible working hours. You will still have to do the minimum hours per month but by working extra hours within the "flexible hours" routine you can build up the extra time.

We expect our staff to commit as much time as is necessary in order to fulfil their duties and this expectation is reflected in our salary structure. Overtime is paid only at the discretion of Directors/Managers and needs prior approval. You may, however, from time to time be asked to work overtime and if you choose to do so, you will have the choice of either being paid (at standard rate) or taking time in lieu. We do not envisage overtime being a regular part of your job.
