2 x 6 months fixed term contract, £18,000 annual salary

My client is a successful global company that provides a variety of on-site Laboratory Services to major pharmaceutical companies. They now have two 6 month contract positions at a respected life sciences customer for a lab technician to join their human biobank in the storage of clinical samples.

The Job

This job is based within the Human Biobank which stores biological tissue samples from clinical studies, material sought from external suppliers (commercial, healthcare organisations, academic etc) and/or collaborators.

This role is primarily lab-based focusing on the receipt, storage, dispatch and tracking of human biological samples to support research studies globally. The biobank works in accordance with health and safety and GxP requirements. This opportunity would ideally suit a flexible, good team worker seeking a science-based role.

As part of a seven-person team of biobank technicians you will be the first point of contact for human tissue samples arriving at the site. Following SOPs you will take receipt of samples in a designated reception area, input sample information into the tracking system, and assist with the transfer of samples to freezer/ tissue bank locations or to responsible scientists on site and to collaborators off-site.

Working to Good Clinical Practice, Job duties include tracking and recording samples within the biobank, liaising with dispatch, transferring samples and general lab housekeeping.

About You

The ideal experience my client is looking for is experience of working in a laboratory environment to health and safety procedures on top of two A Levels or equivalent in science.

To succeed in this job you should demonstrate:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good knowledge and understanding of standard IT software packages (e.g. Excel,
  • Outlook) and databases
  • Knowledge of research laboratory processes and procedures, and laboratory SHE standards
  • Identifying, implementing and sharing continual improvement processes
  • Excellent communication skills and enjoys working as part of a team
