Are you an experienced Benefits or Housing Needs Officer, used to delivering advice and support in a busy Local Authority front line team?
This Local Authority in East London delivers a high quality and customer focused Benefits and Housing Needs Service for a diverse client group including high numbers of vulnerable and disadvantaged households. It merged the two service areas of Benefits and Housing to enable the borough to address the challenges of welfare and social housing reforms. This innovative approach has ensured a holistic, efficient and effective service.
The long term aim of the service is to increase your knowledge and development by moving Officers between disciplines / teams. Areas covered will include Housing Benefits, Advice & Options/Homeless, Temporary Accommodation, Housing Supply, Lettings, Lettings Initiative/Regeneration, Housing Register.
You will have extensive knowledge and substantial experience in at least one of the disciplines, along with knowledge of the legislation, regulations, policy, guidance and practice associated with the disciplines below:
- Homeless assessments and reviews;
- Homeless prevention and housing advice;
- Housing Supply and procurement;
- Housing Register;
- Regeneration, under occupation and mobility schemes;
- Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction schemes;
- Discretionary payments and Local Welfare Support;
As well as the technical knowledge above, you will need strong customer services skills, significant experience and detailed knowledge of the use of IT systems, including data processing, finance and Microsoft systems.
