Behaviour Mentor for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs

Do you want to build a career centered around helping young people to make positive decisions and live a safe and fulfilled life?

An exciting opportunity in Headington in Oxford has arisen for a Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist school for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Some of the students also have learning disabilities alongside their SEMH needs. The Behaviour Mentor position will be working 1:1 and with small groups of pupils with challenging behavioural needs and your role will be to build positive relationships with these students to encourage them to make positive choices and to support them in learning how to regulate their emotions.

This is a full-time long-term behaviour mentor position to start ASAP. The students with these mental health and special educational needs are aged 8 to 18 so running from KS2 through to KS5. The successful behaviour mentor will be responsible for managing and de-escalating behaviour, whilst helping to build the students self-esteem and facilitate learning.

This is a really positive and nurturing environment that utilises therapeutic interventions to help each child fulfil their potential and overcome their barriers to learning. The school has a full-time educational psychologist on site as well as numerous counsellors and the behaviour mentor will have the opportunity to shadow these professionals to learn more about these career paths.
