Main purpose of the role

To manage and develop R&D project proposals leading to commercial and R&D opportunities in offshore renewable technologies. To assist the Technical Bid Manager in SME support activities, and national, regional and international engagement


The BD Proposals Manager will lead and support the development of detailed, well-structured and high quality R&D bids, meeting all the necessary criteria for success and ensuring that the technical proposals submitted for public funding are aligned with the calls.
The BD Proposals Manager will support the RDI team in the development of project consortia, including relevant R&D UK and international organisations and industry partners.
The BD Proposals Manager will support the Technical Bid Manager in supporting SMEs (mainly through collaboration) and national, regional and international engagement to attract funding and form project consortia.
This position will report to the Head of Strategic Research

Key Capabilities

To succeed in the role, the BD Proposals Manager must have and be able to demonstrate the following:
A degree (or equivalent) in an engineering/scientific discipline
R&D experience including R&D proposal development and business development related to R&D
A research/public funding background, preferably linked to offshore renewables
Experience in developing R&D project proposals
A track record in preparing and writing successful funding bids at both national and/or international levels
Experience of working in a relevant industry sector, preferably wind/marine or power/drive train sectors
Experience of building consortia, developing R&D proposals and securing funding to enable the delivery of proposals
Technical and/or commercial background experience relating to product development including intellectual asset management
Ability to ensure internally agreed standards and work practices are developed and maintained
Management of intellectual property contained within the bid proposals/quotations
Good interpersonal, communication and time management skills
Innovative and creative thinking
Tenacity, persistence and determination to succeed in overcoming obstacles
Ability to work to tight deadlines and within a highly pressured environment
