Department: Banking & Finance

Length: Full time (12 month contract)

Location: Belfast

Hours: 9:00am – 5:00 pm (flexibility required)

Reports to: Teams Legal Director

The Belfast office focuses on with top quality local work as well as national work and is involved in some of the biggest deals and transactions in NI each year. We are seeking a paralegal to join our busy team where there is a mix of high quality work and unrivalled training.

Purpose of the role

Working as part of the team, this role requires you to assist the lawyers and client teams in their provision of legal services and meeting the business needs of our clients. You will be expected to provide excellent service at all times, making positive contributions to the work of the teams. You will be expected to demonstrate your organisational and interpersonal skills and be a strong team player.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

· Attending meetings/conference calls and note taking

· Transaction management and support for partners and lawyers – involved in tasks on a transaction from the beginning to conclusion of the matter

· Research on behalf of banking team including recent law updates

· Managing and co-ordinating condition precedent checklists on transactions, drafting of documentation based on precedent forms, undertaking searches and registrations

· Dealing with post completion requirements and taking responsibility for the preparation of completion bibles

· Corresponding with clients by email and phone

· Ensuring all lawyers are kept up to date with all that is happening on their transactions at all times

· Attending regular banking training sessions

· General administration tasks, filing and assisting lawyers and trainees with other ad-hoc duties

Person Specification


· Law degree or degree plus GDL, LPC or IPLS

Relevant Experience:

· Previous office experience required

· Previous experience of working in a professional services environment advantageous

· Previous paralegal/legal experience required in a Banking/Financial Services environment preferred

Key Skills:

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Excellent organisational skills with acute attention to detail

· Experience of managing competing demands, and working well under pressure

· Strong people skills and ability to project credible and professional image to the client

· Ability to communicate with employees at all levels within the firm and across all Practice Groups and business operations areas

· Good IT skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel)

· Able to use own initiative and requiring limited guidance

· Must be flexible as working outside core office hours may be required at short notice
