The Role

You will be working with 1 individual only - a female with learning disabilities, she has own flat outside within the grounds or Wheatsheaf.

She likes to travel into town when possible, she likes to go on the bus but also likely to go out in the house car. She loves going to the charity shop in the village (20 min walk there) and also visiting various charity shops in town. She likes to interact with you but will also have days where she has time to herself. She has a cat who she dotes on. She is a smoker but is respectful to those who don’t smoke and tends to just smoke within her flat alone. She likes to go out for long and short walks depending on the weather.

We are providing individuals with practical and emotional care, enabling them to lead as ordinary life as they can achieve. To help them achieve this you will need to be flexible as you are required to work shifts including bank holidays, weekends and potential sleep ins.

Main duties and responsibilities:

To participate in the day to day implementation of individual support plans and activities within a challenging environment.

To maintain effective communication and liaison with service users, families and others whilst respecting appropriate confidentiality.

To support service users with the preparation of Meals, Laundry duties, cleaning and social events.

To maintain accurate notes and records as and when required.

To work as part of a team to provide high quality care.

The Service

Wheatsheaf is residential home for 6-8 Service Users commutable from Cambridge and surrounding areas.

Working at Wheatsheaf you will be supporting individuals with physical and learning disabilities

Personal Characteristics

Diploma in Health and Social Care or be willing to work towards one.

Experience in supporting adults with challenging behaviour, learning disabilities and/or mental health issues.

The ability to keep calm under pressure.

The confidence to work alone or as part of a team.

Excellent communication skills

The passion to work with vulnerable adults

The desire and commitment to achieve high standards of safeguarding.
