Band 7 Health and Safety Advisor

Location: Hanwell

Temporary: Expected to last until April with possible extension

Hours per week: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £27.00 (Umbrella) or £22.75per hour (PAYE)

JOB SUMMARY

  • To assist in the development and have responsibility for the implementation and continued development of the Trusts Health and Safety Strategy.

  • To promote a culture where managing risk and sound health and safety is recognised as integral to service delivery.

  • To play a major role in raising the profile of health and safety, whilst influencing and engaging staff at all levels within the organisation.

  • To be instrumental in the safety of care to patients and staff through the implementation and development of health and safety strategies and systems, whilst providing expert support, advice and leadership on all health, safety and welfare issues and delivery of appropriate training programmes.

  • To assist implementation of the strategic and operational objectives for health and safety compliance, and to ensure effective co-ordination of the advice received from external experts with regard to statutory standards compliance e.g. fire, moving and handling.

  • To investigate potential non-clinical personal injury claims in a timely manner to comply with NHS Litigation Authority standards.

  • To investigate RIDDOR incidents in a timely manner to comply RIDDOR regulations.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • All records that the role is responsible for or modifies must be kept up to date and maintained in an accurate and diligent manner

  • The post of Health and Safety Advisor exists to fulfil the Trust’s obligation and commitment to provide competent health and safety legislative advice to the Trust and employees, and as required independent contractors. Ensuring that the Trust has systems in place to enable it to demonstrate compliance with this legislation.

  • The role is intended to assist the Head of Trust Health and Safety Compliance to lead the organisation in:

  • Formulating, developing and implementing the Trust Health and Safety strategy and policy.

  • Providing specialist advice to directors and senior managers and front line staff as necessary.

  • Promoting a positive health and safety culture, supporting all Directorates, ensuring a visible presence

  • Planning for health and safety including the setting of realistic short and long term objectives.

  • Formulating and developing a range of health and safety policies, including performance managing delivery of those policies provided by the Estates and Facilities Service.

  • To introduce controls and monitoring arrangements to ensure policies and procedures are correctly implemented.

  • Undertake and oversee accident incident investigation, reporting and undertaking analysis of health and safety and non-clinical incidents as soon as they occur in order to assist with denial/swift settlement of claims.

  • Review of performance and audit of the whole health and safety management system.

  • To line manage in the absence of the Head of Trust Health and Safety Compliance and co-crdinate the workload and set priorities for health and safety administrator(s).

  • To control, as identified, the delegated budget and administration for eyesight testing and spectacles in line with the Display Screen Equipment regulations for the Trust

  • To assist setting health and safety objectives with the Senior Health, Safety Security Advisor for the associated support services staff and monitor and review their performance against those objectives.

  • To plan and deliver training across a variety of health and safety topics
