POST – BAND 6 QUALIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

FULL TIME – 37.5 HOURS

Secure and Complex Care OT service (Ardenleigh Women’s Secure Blended Service)

We have a vacancy for an Occupational Therapist who is looking for an opportunity to develop their leadership / management skills, in addition to clinical experience within our mental health setting, in particular to the Women’s Secure Blended Service. This is an exciting and challenging yet rewarding time for the Secure and complex care OT team as it continues to implement its action plan in line with Service developments. The post holder will be supporting the leadership and implementation of these developments and will be able to utilise their professional experience to design, project manage and evaluate therapeutic programmes of care for the residential units, therapy centre and community with the support of a highly motivated therapy team. There are also opportunities to work multi-professionally and develop skills in managing staff.

The service users we care for often have very complex mental health needs, and at times may display very challenging behaviour. Therefore, staff will be required to demonstrate a range of skills including effective communication, empathy, self-awareness, resilience, and critical self-reflection skills. The individual would need to have the ability to manage their own reactions and responses to challenging behaviours effectively. You will be able to promote the philosophy of Occupational Therapy and evaluate the outcomes of the service. You will be expected to work flexibly over seven days as service user need determines.

Ardenleigh Secure Women’s service is a 30 bedded blended (medium - low) secure service in Erdington, providing a gender specific and sensitive treatment for women from the West Midlands who have a mental disorder requiring treatment within conditions of medium and low security. It consists of two 8 bedded acute wards and one 14 bedded rehabilitation ward. All Women are detained under the Mental Health Act and have a history of actual or potential harm to other people. The service is well established, having opened in 2003. The service recently won a bid through NHS England to pilot a blended security, trauma informed model of care. This post is attached to the new model of care.

The OT service is a well-resourced department that provides occupational therapy treatment to support service users with complex needs to move successfully though their care pathway. We operate from a supportive team made up of OT staff with a range of skills and job roles.

All Occupational Therapy staff will receive clinical and operational supervision; opportunities for continued professional development. The trust has an exceptional Learning and Development department and offers excellent opportunities for CPD.
