Automation Engineer

Our client is seeking an automation Engineer to join their engineering design team to support the generating and developing of creative solutions to automate devices and processes and ensuring the implementation and assembly of both full and semi automation, within the production environment.

Core Responsibilities:

1. To assist in the review of all current production processes and identify areas where full or semi automation will be beneficial, with the key aim of achieving improved efficiency and effectiveness

2. Be responsible for identifying optimum equipment requirements to increase throughput and increase and improve output within production environment

3.Oversee the purchase of automation equipment, in close liaison with Purchasing Department

4.Responsible for the implementation all automation equipment, including design layout and full assembly. Work in cooperation with the Production Managers to achieve increase in efficiency and effectiveness of Production Department

5. Actively contribute to design improvement in conjunction with Engineering and Production departments and supporting 5S standards, through the implementation and continuous review of automation

Additional requirements of the role:

  • Consult and coordinate with the Production, Engineering and Quality Departments
  • Regularly attend cross functional internal meetings
  • Act as liaison with suppliers for purchasing of all equipment
  • To undertake any other duty as reasonably requested by their line manager

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience requirements:

  1. Extensive experience and understanding of implementation of automation
  2. Proven track record in improving the quality and increase of throughput and output in a manufacturing environment
  3. A proven practical understanding within a manufacturing background. This would likely be from an Automotive, Pharmaceutical, Industrial or Aerospace operation
  4. Previous working knowledge of CAD

Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience requirements:

  1. Mechanical Engineering / Robotics / Automation / Mechatronic
  2. Automation project experience - leading automation projects from conception to manufacturing release
  3. To generate relevant justifications for capital approval of new equipment, spares, refurbishment and services

  • Be a self-starter, able to self-manage and work independently
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic and fast paced environment, working to and meeting deadlines
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot
  • Must be solution focused and innovative
  • Excellent communication skills with good interpersonal skills and strong previous experience of building good relationships internally with other teams
  • Be highly organised, delivery focused with an inquisitive and highly analytical nature
  • Degree or equivalent in engineering, mechatronics, robotics or similar discipline
