Teaching Personnel are currently working exclusively with a 'Good' primary school in the city of Mackworth, who are looking to recruit effective Teaching Assistants to support students on the Autism spectrum. The school has a designated unit for children on the Autistic spectrum, which is split into two groups - one more high functioning and the other low functioning.
The children can present with challenging behaviour and may have requirements in personal care such as toileting and feeding.
The school is a varied and ever changing environment in which members of staff work flexibly to support vulnerable students with autism and communication difficulties. The school work closely with Teaching Personnel to provide candidates who are available for day to day requirements as well as taking on longer term positions to provide continuity for the students.
Those who have experience in the following areas would be of particular interest:
- Youth work
- Experience working with Autism in either schools or residential environments
- Support work & residential care
- Learning mentor in primary environments
- Graduates from relevant disciplines (Psychology, sociology, Special Educational Needs)
- Challenging behaviour
The primary function of this post is to work collaboratively with the team, supporting students in developing their confidence, self-esteem, increasing school participation and to generally cultivate greater aspirations to achieve, not only in education but in the their lives as a whole.
