Department

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the AV Services Team as an AV Services Technician. Information Technology and Media Services (ITMS) strive to enhance the experience of students and staff in learning, teaching, research and business operations. We provide guidance on the adoption of appropriate technologies, systems and services in a rapidly developing environment and help people to embrace technology as it becomes embedded within university life. Our services include a cross-campus communications infrastructure, desktop equipment for students in learning areas and for staff in work areas, email, central business systems, audio-visual facilities to support teaching, virtual and managed learning environments. Our mission is to provide effective, efficient and economic IT and media services for the organisation to enable people to make the best opportunity of their time at DMU.

Role

We have a position for a skilled Audio-Visual professional to join a team who install, support, design and maintain the fixed AV equipment in 500+ spaces across the University. These include classrooms, labs, lecture theatres, meeting rooms and specialist spaces. You will aim to help ensure a high level of availability and usability of these facilities for staff and students. We have a responsibility for AV systems across campus. We troubleshoot issues end to end, checking everything from physical wiring, to network settings, to Digital Sound Processor configurations or replacing faulty hardware. The priorities of this role are to help maintain these facilities, and to support your colleagues.

The person

The ideal candidate for this role will have a good understanding of AV systems and control, AV wiring, networking, and general IT Skills. You will have a technical mindset, an enthusiasm to keep learning and an commitment to investigate problems to their conclusion. We are looking for a strong team player who can prioritise their own workload to meet challenging deadlines. You will be expected to be flexible and react quickly to changing priorities whilst maintaining a high level of customer service. Experience of supporting audio-visual systems in a large and complex environment would be useful. You will possess a good knowledge of current audio-visual technologies and IT, with a desire to stay up to date with future trends. Familiarity with hardware from major manufacturers, such as Crestron and Extron would also be beneficial. Training and support will be offered in some areas you may not be fully skilled in but solid experience within AV / IT Support is essential.
