MedImmune is committed to growing its Cardiovascular & Metabolic Disease (CVMD) Research & Development capability. The CVMD Research group in Cambridge UK is seeking to recruit high calibre scientists to enable progression of an expanding drug project portfolio.
As an Associate Scientist II you will play an active role in implementing and executing scientific research and development within the CVMD (Cardiovascular & Metabolic Disease Research) group, enabling the prosecution of an expanding portfolio of biologics drug projects. You will support the CVMD in vitro core team and be responsible for several technical and experimental processes to support the in vitro characterisation of novel peptide and antibody therapeutics using biochemical and cellular activity assays. This is a "hands-on," laboratory based scientific and technical role in our in vitro core team supporting projects from target validation to lead candidate profiling.
This is a part-time role (2 days/week) and a fixed term contract for 3-6 months with an opportunity to become permanent.
As an Associate Scientist II you will be responsible for design, execution and analysis of in vitro assays including routine screening. Predominantly this will be functional and cellular screening supporting Lead Isolation and Lead Optimisation for the CVMD Research Area. Assays may be low or medium throughput bridging between high throughput screening assay and downstream disease-based in vivo or ex vivo assays. You will perform extended and specialised characterisation when required for projects and communicate results, conclusions and recommendations to colleagues, line manager and multi-disciplinary teams. You will record experiments in lab books and databases. The work will be done within a line and/or matrix/project team. You will interact with the Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering teams in MedImmune and potentially teams from other therapeutic areas. You will demonstrate scientific rigor in assessing your own data and that of others and independently plan, design, and executes projects within a specific scientific field utilizing good scientific judgment.
- Degree in one of the Life Sciences disciplines
- Experience of working with medium to high density microtitre plate technologies
- Experience in running in vitro biochemical and cellular assays to provide affinity, potency or efficacy readouts
- Experience in assay development and optimisation for several assay technologies
- Good oral and written communications skills
- Experience of binding and cell-based second messenger signalling assays
- Use of robotics for assays and /or sample handling
- Experience working in cardiovascular or metabolic disease research areas
- Experience of working with primary cell assays especially adipose or renal cell biology
- An understanding of biological sciences, the biotechnology industry and the drug development process
