Assistant to Intellectual Property team for global brand

My client are an international business based in North Birmingham looking to recruit an Assistant to support their in-house Intellectual Property Team. The role is busy and varied and would suit a candidate who has had previous exposure to intellectual property or certainly legal but looking for a change.

  • Assist in the management and maintenance of the associated databases necessary to support the IP and Group Intercompany Licensing functions

  • Assist on the construction of, and draft or review accordingly under the guidance of the IP & Legal Counsel various external and internal business agreements primarily concerned with the control of ownership and rights of use of intellectual property rights (IPR) such as confidentiality, consultancy, assignments, licence agreements and related agreements.

  • On a monthly basis, pro-actively manage the progress, renewal and expiration of the IPR contractual documentation, liaising with business units and operating companies and under the guidance of the IP & Legal Counsel drafting extensions and terminations of contracts where appropriate.

  • Prepare standard formality documentation as required for the prosecution Patents and Trademarks working closely with the IP & Technology Manager and external attorneys.

  • Assist in the preparation of documentation in relation to the enforcement of IP for the business including cease and desist letters and other documentation. Assist in the preparation and collation of documentary evidence required to assist external attorneys and provide legal advice in such matters to facilitate these activities.

  • Support the administrative, contractual and legal elements of licensing programmes across all business units including the drafting, management, and execution of internal intercompany license and research and development agreements associated with the management of the group Intellectual Property Rights.

  • Actively manage the updating, renewal and expiration of such intercompany contractual documentation, liaising with business units and under the guidance of the IP & Legal Counsel drafting extensions, amendments and terminations where appropriate.

Applicants will have previous exposure to Intellectual property or legal contracts. Strong secretarial experience producing documents and supporting a wider team is also key. Legal qualifications would also be desirable.
