Assistant Superintendent Shipboard Emergency Response
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Superintendent, Shipboard Emergency Response within the Maritime department at Carnival UK’s Head office in Southampton. Working within the Safety Team and reporting to the Deck & Safety Superintendent, you will be the subject matter expert for electronic mustering. Liaising closely with ships’ teams, project management, internal departments, Corporate partners, regulatory bodies and suppliers; you will be required to support safety and marine projects / initiatives, be pro-active in resolving short term problems and support the Deck & Safety Superintendent with the management of various safety documentation and plans, including the shipboard emergency response. You will also be required to assist with ship visits / inspections and assist with the follow up of incidents and audit findings
Your primary responsibilities will include:
To act as the solution lead for electronic mustering onboard Carnival UK ships.
To assist with the management and improvement of shipboard emergency response organisation
To assist with the management and updating of safety plans and documentation.
To assist with risk assessments and contribute to company policy
Close liaison with Flag State (MCA, Bermuda); you may also be required to engage with Port State authorities such as USCG.
Close liaison with the nautical team in Carnival Maritime (Hamburg), Fleet Training and Fleet Operations in Southampton.
To assist the Deck & Safety Superintendent and the Safety Team to ensure safety initiatives, projects and other safety related tasks are executed and supported.
To support and work closely with Ship Managers to ensure any marine safety and emergency response issues are identified and addressed
To assist with the review of proposed safety equipment and arrangements, particularly for new vessels.
To visit ships as and when required, reporting on condition of safety equipment, emergency response performance and working with ship’s teams to identify and resolve issues
To carry out training of onboard personnel in safety systems when directed
To represent the company at conferences / workshops as directed
To work with the supply chain to ensure required equipment is procured and supplied to our ships
To assist with follow up and closure of incidents, audit items, ship management report findings, non-conformances and marine casualty reports as required.
A member of the crisis response organization.
With a background in shipping, and preferably the cruise industry as a deck officer or surveyor, you will have experience and good knowledge of emergency response, marine safety, deck operations and statutory regulations. You will have a good understanding of marine projects and be a logical, clear thinker with excellent analytical skills and the ability to think laterally when required. Self motivated, with the ability to work pro-actively both in a team and independently, and to communicate well with everyone regardless of rank or position will be very important qualities.
You'll be based at our Southampton HQ, with travel to ships up to 2/3 weeks each month and occasional out of hour working.
