We are currently seeking an Assistant Psychologist to join us on a full time basis, working 9:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday.
Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke provides an emergency admissions service for men and a pathway for women from low secure to rehabilitation including a specialist service for personality disorder.
The hospital has more than 16 acres of landscaped grounds and with its beachside location just outside Weston-super-Mare – helps us provide a quiet, peaceful and therapeutic environment which can offer service users a broad range of therapies including CAT, CBT, Schema Therapy, EMDR & DBT.The Opportunity
This post covers low secure inpatient care across male and female wards with a variety of presenting problems including severe and enduring mental health problems, personality disorder, substance use and behavioural difficulties.
You will undertake psychological assessments of clients including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, and others involved in their care, under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.
To assist in the running of therapeutic groups, formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
Provide a consultation service for other professionals to raise awareness about substance misuse, health and wellbeing. To maintain effective liaison and communications within CHK and with agencies outside of the Drug & Alcohol service in relation to patient care.
To work with other staff to assess clients and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews whilst attending and contributing go multi-disciplinary meetings where appropriate.

• A good level (2:1 or above) BPS (British Psychological Society) Accredited Undergraduate Degree in Psychology (or equivalent)
• Some experience within the healthcare sector, ideally within mental health
• A Psychology Masters Qualification (or equivalent) is desirable
• Previous experience in a paid/voluntary Assistant Psychologist role is desirable
• A passion for learning and working as part of a multidisciplinary team

We have almost 30 years’ experience in providing specialist mental health treatment, rehabilitation and support in service user focused environments that provide evidenced, quality health care in national and regional care pathways.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
