Job Title: Assistant Production Controller

Location: IPS - Featherstone

Job Purpose

To assist the Production Controller ensure that production lines meet planned volume and commercial targets in accordance with QA and safety standards. To promote best practice at all times, and provide support to Shift Managers where appropriate.

Key Accountabilities:

* Assist the Production Controller effectively motivate a team of people to meet production targets

* Ensure the final product meets client specifications (SPI)

* Assist the Production Controller effectively maximise production efficiency to ensure plan is met on an hourly/daily basis

* Effectively use the integrated management systems (VISION)

* Adhere to and promote best practice in accordance with company health, safety and quality regulations

* Assist in developing staff to the best of their abilities and encourage good behaviours

* Assist the Production Controller ensure all paperwork and systems are completed and accurate in accordance with company procedures

* Assist the Production Controller ensure that all areas comply with hygienic audits, both internal and external

* Ensure GMP (good manufacturing practices) and housekeeping (clean as you go) are strictly adhered to

* Assist in the development of a skills matrix for all production workers

* Assist in the identification and development of Line Leaders to promote succession planning

* Attend Line Leader meetings, and relevant training courses, as and when required

* Assist in the training and development of new starters

* Assist the Production Controller in championing GMP, Quality and right First Time

* Assist the Production Controller in monitoring, controlling and minimising waste

* Act as a role model for best practice and play an active part in continuous improvement

* Participate in the company’s PDP program and hold PDP meetings with direct reports

* Assist the Production Controller in managing the output of assigned production and effectively deal with issues as and when they arise

* Liaise with customers and clients as and when required

* To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time, that reasonably fall within the scope and grade of the post

Scope:

Support the Shift Managers and Production Controllers and lead the factory with a safe and lean approach with the overall target to improve efficiencies and utilise machinery, manpower and knowledge.

Aim to develop to Production Controller whilst mentoring Shift Managers and Junior Production Controllers.

Manage production lines across production lines running 24/5 on alternating days’ and nights’ shifts to ensure consistency in working practices across all shifts. Requires some weekend working through promotional periods and flexibility to cover holidays across the shifts.

Must be prepared to cover a variety of shifts to represent the management team.

Reports to: Production Controller

Finance: Manage revenue costs of lines/production areas

Supervision: 2 – 4 direct reports & approx. 50 operatives including Line Leaders

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

* Green belt lean experience or equivalent

* Experience in using CI tools

* H&S L2 qualification

* NVQ L2 in Team Leading or Packing Operations

* Drive own personal development through training and work based experience
