Coleg y Cymoedd have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Principal to join their dynamic leadership team based at our Nantgarw Campus which is 6 miles north of Cardiff. The successful candidate will join us on a full time, permanent basis and will receive a competitive salary of Circa £64,000 per annum.

Coleg y Cymoedd is a medium sized college with a turnover of around £40m. The college serves the communities of two local authorities in the South Wales central valleys and was created in August 2013, following a merger of two neighbouring colleges.

About the Assistant Principal role:

You will devise, deliver and implement strategies to pull together the varying strands of the broader learner experience into one coherent pathway with quality and equality at the heart of each strand.  The college has made great strides in the quality of its delivery of qualifications in recent years and would now like to focus its attention in a similar way on the broader learner experience, which underpins those qualifications.  The role will bring together the various staff and resources already allocated with a learner focus and will form an important part of further progress on the quality profile of the college.

Key responsibilities of our Assistant Principal:

- Strategic lead on the planning and implementation of recruitment.

- Strategic lead on the planning and implementation of the college’s approach to Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act.

- Effective use of external and internal data, customer feedback and trend analysis to enhance provision and services that positively impact on safeguarding, respect, learner behaviour and ultimately retention and achievement.

- Lead and coordinate all aspects of the college’s approach to the broader learner experience.

- Oversee the development of a consistent and coherent support model so that learners are supported at all times.

- Review and develop college policies relating to the learner experience.

- Set stretching targets for improvement in all learner support areas to deliver excellence and to deliver the college’s strategic plan.

- Line manage two heads of school in support of the consistent, collaborative approach to quality management and the commitment to all learners.

- Ensure that all external deadlines and reporting requirements are satisfied with high quality and accurate reports.

- Participate in and develop the college’s performance management and review processes so that they support the college’s drive to excellence in all activities.

What we’re looking for in our Assistant Principal:

- Experience of a relevant management role in further education or another education setting.

- Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce and explain relevant and helpful data driven reports.

- Supportive of the development of Welsh language skills across the college.

- Excellent communicator with a proven track record of success in a leadership or management role.

- A willingness to promote and adhere to the college’s commitment to equal opportunities, safeguarding, health and safety, the Welsh language, GDPR, financial regulations and any other statutory requirements.

- This is a multi-campus college and an ability to travel between campuses is essential.
