National Express are looking to recruit an experienced Assistant Operations & Compliance Manager, based at our garage in Leicester. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering an efficient and reliable Private Hire and Scheduled coach service through effective leadership, teamwork and control of resources.
What you'll do:
Manage the Traffic Office staff including holiday, absence, individual development plans and conduct, and coordinate activities to ensure the provision of a reliable, high quality coach service.
Manage drivers including conduct, attendance, timekeeping, standards and development.
Ensure cost effective staff utilisation, scheduling efficiency, holiday and overtime allocation and to maintain accurate personnel records. Monitor and manage staff sickness and attendance.
Build and develop effective working relationships throughout the business and with all relevant stakeholders, including attending any meetings as required.
Work with colleagues to ensure all services operate to a high standard and in accordance with set evaluation table targets, identifying and implementing solutions where targets are not being met, and strive to perform to gold standard.
Work with colleagues to achieve the annual budget and associated action plan.
Have a good working knowledge of, and keep up to date with all relevant legislation and ensure compliance with Drivers Hours Regulations, Health and Safety Regulations and all Company policies and procedures. Understand and adhere to the Company’s contractual obligations and remedy any causes of non-compliance.
Travel on services and work with colleagues in the planning and development of the network and private hire services, responding to changes in requirements from NEL, highway changes and budgetary requirements as necessary.
Ensure all accidents (road or personal injuries and employers liability) are recorded as per Company procedure and comprehensively investigated, and attend major incidents outside of normal working hours where required.
Liaise closely with Engineering colleagues with particular emphasis on the prompt departure of vehicles from the garage, and the operation and auditing of the defect reporting system, ensuring all staff are aware of their obligations, the role of VOSA and the need to report any VOSA checks immediately.
Ensure effective security measures are in place to prevent internal and external revenue fraud. Collate and deliver statistics and reports in accordance with set timescales or as requested. Have a good working knowledge of all traffic office systems e.g. uTrack, Coach Manager, etc; and conduct regular audits to maximise compliance.
Monitor the performance of electronic equipment i.e. ticket machines, CCTV and traffic office equipment, ensuring any problems or suggestions are reported, accurate records are kept, and repairs and servicing are conducted.
Implement any actions or procedures required by the Investors In People (IIP) action plan.
Ensure that the business remains compliant from a driver and vehicle perspective through oversight and management of systems such as TruTac, Coach Manager, VMS, Salesforce.
What you'll need:
Relevant NVQ Level 2 is essential (e.g. in Transport Road Passenger Operations) or experience gained overtime
Good understanding of the road passenger transport sector, including all relevant legal and external regulations and requirements for the operation of passenger carrying vehicles
Excellent working knowledge of all daily site procedures, health and safety regulations, employment legislation, and people management practices
Experience in managing and motivating a team to achieve high standards of performance in a unionised environment
Flexible approach to working hours – able to attend out-of-hours external meetings on an occasional basis and respond quickly to any “on-call” requirements
Thorough appreciation of the needs of external customers and external stakeholders, coupled with the ability to identify areas for improvement and implement effective action plans
ILM Level 2 in Effective Management is desirable
