Permanent opportunity to join a Not for Profit organisation in Northamptonshire as Assistant Accountant to manage all financial activities and report to COO and external accountant.

Client Details

My client is a forward thinking not for profit business who operate across the UK. They have a current requirement for a Assistant Accountant to take ownership on the day to day financial operations of the business.


The Assistant Accountant will involve:

  • Maintain accurate accounts for the organisation and subsidiaries in line with set procedures and ensuring accuracy of all financial entries and data in Sage 50
  • Produce accounts to trial balance for external accountant
  • Facilitate the monthly payroll submissions through Sage 50 and year end payroll processes including P11Ds
  • Provide support and guidance to the Finance Assistant
  • Manage credit control working with the wider team as required
  • Ensure bank reconciliations are completed in accordance with set procedures
  • Prepare and file all required financial returns such as VAT and corporation tax
  • Lead the annual accounts audit process, involving other team members as required
  • Work with key stakeholders to prepare the annual budget submissions
  • Assist key stakeholders with requests for financial information and reporting as required
  • Support the business with business models, return on investment calculations or general financial support
  • Proactively risk rate key customers and suppliers to help inform the senior team


You will have a varied finance background and be comfortable in carrying out all finance related tasks and will possess:

  • 3+ years' experience in a Bookkeeper/Assistant Accountant role for an SM

  • Working knowledge of Sage

  • Previous experience processing payroll with a solid understanding of PAYE, basic pension regulations and statutory requirements

  • Minimum AAT level 3 qualified with the desire to continue professional study up to CIMA/ACCA/ACA beneficial

  • Some exposure to line management or mentoring desirable

  • Advanced Excel user

  • Experience of working with multiple P&Ls
