Purpose of the Role
Responsible for overseeing the day to day management of the assembly, testing, shipping and installation of special purpose machinery. Working in partnership with project leads this senior position will manage electrical fitters, mechanical fitters, quality inspectors and labourers utilising resourcing plans ensuring appropriate resource is available when required and identifying skills gaps.
Maintain a high level of due diligence ensuring machine safety, quality and customer specifications are constantly achieved and are in line with ISO9001 & ISO14001.
Work in partnership with project leads to ensure effective resource planning of all machine and spares builds
Ensure the fitting and electrical team are motivated to assemble and build machinery to engineering drawings
Ensure that all projects are assembled in line with customer specifications, meeting key deadlines and ensuring regular progress updates are provided
Work in conjunction with the machine shop operations team to ensure assembly schedules are maintained including the efficient transition of parts to and from the machine shop
Manage the receiving of parts through goods in and efficient transition to the relevant department or assembly area
Manage the build quality during the assembly process through to onsite installation
Liaising with Business Support to ensure that fitting team obtain the certifications necessary to work on customer premises
Ensure an outstanding level of health and safety is always maintained through the promotion of a safe working environment and regular auditing putting corrective action in place where required
Set individual and team objectives/KPIs, conduct regular 1 to 1s and a carry out annual appraisals.
Maintain effective and safe operation of hand tools, power tools and equipment, lifting equipment, ladders and other tools required to assemble machine parts/machines
Conduct risk assessments utilising experienced personnel as required to conduct risk assessments in the build areas
Oversee shipping/delivery/loading of projects including ensuring appropriate packing and shipping methods are used
Ensure that the production and yard environment are safe, clean and tidy
Review build methods and improve, streamline where required
Undertake additional responsibilities and tasks as required
Previous supervisory experience in a similar organisation
Competent in technical aspects of machine build including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic engineering (ideally gained within a similar environment)
Experienced manager of multi-skilled teams
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Ability to lead others, with a real can-do attitude, used to working with tight timescales and not afraid to roll sleeves up
Working knowledge of Machine Safety
Ability to provide quality information within deadlines
Excellent communication skills, adept at managing changing priorities and confident both in an internal and client facing role
Previous experience of working within an ISO 9001 and ISO14001 environment
Strength of character to be able to identify, effect and facilitate change
Strong computer literacy including Word and Excel
Minimum HNC qualified in a relevant engineering discipline
