Aspiring Youth Justice Officer Wokingham - Education and Training - March 8th Start- Learning Support Assistant role ideal for Aspiring Youth Justice Officer Wokingham

This role is based in a YR 5 class, working 1:1 with a SEMH student, looking to raise attainment with his academic ability and emotional maturity. This will take time and an active interest in Youth Justice/ Psychology is key to excelling within this role.

Please note - This LSA role is a set in a very challenging context, it takes a long time to build trust with students. You might be there for 9 months and only then, start to make a break through with students who are vulnerable and have been let down by the adult world. There will be a focus on traumas and some anti-social behaviour in this role, you need to prepare for these eventualities.

Pragmatism, patience and empathy are crucial in this role, if you have these qualities then your sincerity will shine through. You can't save all the students you work with, however, when working 1:1 or in small groups with them, you can give them every chance to. Some of the good work you do now, will pay off further down the road in that child's life.

This LSA role in a specialist SEMH school for boys aged 9-16 that have excluded from their mainstream education. There will be a plethora of reasons why each boy is in the school, they will have suffered different traumas and all different contexts. It's a case of forming relationships with the boys, over time. You may help plant ideas that you will not see the full, positive effects or end results from, know that they are there and will happen.

Understanding the dichotomies, diversity and cultural effects on mental health in an area like Dorking, is vital to being able to have the stoic and durability nature to thrive in this role. Maintaining behaviour of the students, where possible and raising their academic achievement.

Many of the students will be incredibly charismatic, your days will fly by quickly and you will not know where the day has gone. At the same token, in an environment where a lot of the student's Mental Health is incredibly vulnerable, you will have to be very patience and focus on the student's skills for life.

***£75 per day, LSA role is for the academic year to July 2021, 8.15 to 16.15, immediate start

***Working 1:1 with at least pupils with varying degrees of SEN from Mild Learning Difficulties to Severe Autism.

***Fantastic CPD provided by teachers and tutors, ideal for when you start a MSc or research project. The latter part of the day, once the students have gone home.

***Opportunity to interview and spend the day in the school, seeing how this Slough school and their students operate
