Location: London, E1 (Hybrid)
Salary: £38,000 - £48,390 per year, pro rata
Hours: 18.75 hours per week
Our client takes music-making into immigration detention centres and other places where migrants are confined, like asylum hotels and army barracks. Their artists work with people in these places, supporting them to create, record and perform original music.
The charity create platforms for their music and stories, building support and understanding of a group that is being placed under increasing pressure by the UK’s 'hostile environment’. They are a national leader in this work with unparalleled experience in this complex territory, going back nearly 20 years.
The Role
The charity’s first Artistic Director has moved on after five years in which she has transformed their artistic programme, so they are now looking for someone with special qualities and experience, to take them to the next level in what they do and how they do it, so that they continue to rise to the challenges they constantly face.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Artistic vision - you can see where their work could go in future
- Track record - you have developed and delivered arts projects, from the creative idea to the reality
- Collaborative leadership - you have brought out the best in others to get the best results
- Communication - your speaking and writing advances projects and relationships
- Experience in the arts - you have experience in a relevant field, e.g. the arts and social change sector, or the music industry
- Commitment - your practice fits their values of empowerment, co-creation, quality, curiosity, respect
Desirable
- Work experience in a management role in a charity or arts company
- Knowledge of relevant networks and potential new partners
- Experience of inclusive / participatory artistic practice
- Experience of building relationships with participants, colleagues and partners
- Experience of budgeting
- Experience of fundraising
- Experience of marketing / audience development
- Office skills, e.g. report writing, office software
- Culture and language skills relevant to people in immigration settings
Lived experience and professional experience
Professional experience and lived experience are of equal value for this role. The charity need someone who can help them deliver, that means understanding what the people they work with need, and knowing how to make that happen - that combination will give them the strongest impact.
