Then read on.... Biffa is the UK's leading integrated waste management company providing collection, recycling, treatment, disposal and technologically driven energy generation services. You will be leading a team of Regional, Development and Project Managers, with up to 20 locations, 2000 staff and revenues up to £80m under your remit. Candidates should possess proven senior management experience (not necessarily gained in the Waste industry), including financial and change management, and the ability to drive the business forward to develop new commercial opportunities and meet and exceed financial targets and KPIs. Job Purpose: To own and drive the Area's P&L performance, developing the Area's commercial and business strategy and to deliver operational performance together with growth organic and new business wins, whilst maintaining effective operating cost control and high levels of customer service. To build a high performance, safety first culture, driving employee engagement and ensuring the Biffa Municipal commercial approach, based on excellent service delivery and best practice is consistently adopted. Principal Accountabilities: 1 Responsible for delivering the Area business plans and annual financial targets, working closely with the Municipal leadership team to support and deliver the Municipal annual Balanced Business Plan (BBP). 2 Promote internally and externally Biffa's sustainability agenda and actively engage with recognised industry bodies (APSE / LGA / ESA). 3 Collaborate with the wider Group and Municipal business to identify new business opportunities (including acquisition targets), develop business case proposals and implementation plans. 4 Build strong relationships with senior local authority stakeholders (including politicians) and influence existing and potential customers to maximise opportunities & proactively shape the market going forward to Biffa's advantage. 5 To identify, validate, develop and lead divisional projects that will add value to the business and are aligned to the business's strategy and plans. 6 Advocate and thought leader for the public sector outsourcing agenda, contributing to industry and client forums. 7 Full responsibility for the Area's financial performance (including but not limited to): Development and delivery of the Area's annual budgets Management of the portfolio's working capital & liaising with the Divisional FD to develop initiatives to improve cash flow Overall ownership of the capital requirements and cash allocation, annually and over the longer term Proactive management of the regular monthly & quarterly reforecasting cycles, ensuring that the Area's on-going position is in line with expectations Continuous assessment re the portfolio's risks & opportunities while working with the appropriate partners to mitigate risk & leverage the opportunities The development and tracking of financial improvement initiatives to ensure that we deliver and exceed our commitments to the Group and wider stakeholders 8 Actively manage the business data and champion the development of our MI tools and capability across the division, using trend analysis to proactively manage the business including the optimal use of all our assets. 9 Install a "Customer first" culture across the portfolio that strives for exceptional levels of customer service in all front-line services and developing effective partnering solutions with the support functions across the Group 10 Strategically plan future resourcing levels and infrastructure requirements to effectively meet customer and service delivery requirements over the full contract terms and proactively support the SLT in developing the division's 5 year plan and underlying growth assumptions. 11 Work closely with the Commercial Director (and their team) to maintain effective customer relations, improved account management and build a consultative client partnership to ensure we are their partner of choice. 12 Be a visible leader ensuring that Health, Safety & Welfare remains a key priority and that all company policies and standards are implemented and maintained. Responsible for strategic plans and demonstrable leadership to support the company culture and approach across the area. 13 Take responsibility for all health and safety, environmental compliance, O Licence, insurance and GDPR issues ensuring your Area management teams and colleagues understand and comply with all Biffa policies, guidelines, legislative and regulatory requirements to minimise our exposure to risk. 14 Develop a high-performance culture, ensuring clear objectives are set and reviewed, which are aligned to the BBP and that effective performance and development conversations are regularly undertaken. 15 Drive high levels of employee engagement, ensuring engagement plans are in place and proactively implemented and that managers across the business understand the role they play in driving engagement. 16 Effectively lead, coach and manage your team, in line with our HR policies, demonstrating a proactive approach towards personal development, fair selection, diversity and career development. 17 Ensure effective communications, utilising the group communication channels and divisional channels to ensure all colleagues remain up to date and involved. 18 Work in partnership with the HRBP's to develop and implement the People Plans with a focus on talent, learning and development and succession planning. Person Specification: Education / Qualifications A Degree or Equivalent Qualifications (Essential) A Masters Degree (Desirable) IOSH for Managers (Desirable) Business Management Qualification (Desirable) International Transport CPC (Desirable) Certificate of Technical Competency (Desirable) Experience In depth experience of a fast paced service delivery environment in a unionised environment with strong SHEQ performance.
