The principal responsibility of the role is to develop and implement a project to deposit the archives of the South West Police Heritage Trust (SWPHT) at the Devon Record Office (South West Heritage Trust) and to care for and make it available to the public to the standards set out by the National Archive.The candidates will need to be able to travel between Okehampton & the Devon Records Office in Exeter

Key requirements:

Experience of working within an archive
Cataloguing and palaeographical skills and the ability to list archives accurately using CALM or a similar database, paying attention to detail
Experience of using ICT, especially word processing
Familiarity with appropriate national and international archival standards and an ability to apply them practically
An understanding of archive conservation, preservation and display issues with knowledge and experience of practical, basic archives care
Ability to consult about, and develop, policy documents such as collecting and weeding policies, based on best practice and an understanding of users' needs
Ability to use social media including Facebook and Twitter, and ability to edit websites
Communication skills, both written and verbal, and an ability to tailor these to the appropriate level for the audience
Experience of devising and delivering instructions and training programmes
Practical skills in boxing, caring for and displaying archives, including preventative conservation and practical basic conservation
Basic project management skills including management of workloads, meeting targets, evaluation and budget control
Understanding of data protection issues and sensitivity to upsetting issues, images and records
Ability to work with partners such as Family History Societies, Record Offices, other museums and colleagues within Devon & Cornwall Police, and to represent the Collection at a professional level
An ability to interact in a helpful way with the public, stakeholders, and colleagues
Willingness to deliver the occasional outreach in evenings or weekends
Educated to degree level with recognised postgrad qualification in archive administration
