The practice has a clear approach in exploring ideas of how places and buildings can make peoples lives better. Thoughtful interventions have won the practice a strong reputation for efficiently delivering high quality buildings across all sectors such as housing, workplace, public, education, retail, leisure, healthcare and many more well as feasibility studies and masterplans.
They have 2 offices, one based in Birmingham and the other in London. They remain both down-to-earth, innovative, friendly and professional. They have long standing relationships that they have build with their clients and collaborators both private and public.
Role & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to create designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments. Using specialist construction knowledge and high-level drawing skills to design buildings. The goal is to match client's needs and to produce buildings that are functional, sustainable, safe and aesthetically pleasing. You will be involved throughout the construction process, adapting their plans according to budget constraints, environmental factors or client needs. Operating as part of an overall project team; working closely with a range of construction professionals from quantity surveyors to building services engineers
-Control project from start to finish to ensure high quality, innovative and functional design
-Creating building designs and highly detailed drawings both by hand and by using specialist CAD applications
-Liaising with construction professionals about the feasibility of potential projects
-Working around constraining factors such as town planning legislation, environmental impact and project budget
-Working closely with a team of other professionals such as building service engineers, construction managers, quantity surveyors and architectural technologists
-Applying for planning permission and advice from governmental new build and legal departments
-Writing and presenting reports, proposals, applications and contracts
-Choosing the materials to be used and specifying the requirements for the project whilst keeping in mind client's needs
-Adapting plans according to circumstances and resolving any problems that may arise during construction
-Making sure the project is running according to schedule and budget
-Playing a part in project and team management
-Travelling regularly to building sites, proposed locations and client meetings
Required Skills & Experience
-A minimum of 2 years' experience in the UK
-A good understanding of the necessary technical drawing packages required to bring their vision to life
-Good material knowledge
-Must understand basic detailing and principles
-Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit or Vectorworks
-Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, dealing with people at all levels
-Must be able to work well as part of a team, as well as working under your own initiative
-Have the ability to work to tight deadlines
-A strong eye for detail
-A good understanding of building regulations and compliance in the above sectors
-Confident tackling planning applications
-Comfortable being client facing
-Be able to work in a fast-paced environment
-High levels of creativity, imagination and vision
Salary & Package
The successful candidate will receive a salary of £40,000 along with company pension, 20 days holiday and private medical insurance.
