This opportunity is offered as a full-time apprenticeship over the course of 1,2 or 3 years and will involve great formal training opportunities with MAN Truck & Bus as well as supported/funded training for HGV driving tests too. It’ll be a supportive environment to join where you’ll have a great team of mentors in your colleagues and Managers. They’re a hard-working bunch but are also very friendly too and have a happy team environment!
It’s worth mentioning that fully qualified, experienced HGV Technicians are highly sought after and earn salaries of £40,000 on average in the UK. So, it’s a good career path to consider!

This Apprenticeship position will involve on the job training and learning within the busy commercial workshop as well as attending block release training sessions with MAN Truck & Bus in Bristol, where you’ll be sent one week at a time, a few times each year (all expenses paid). Your in-house training will be a structured training programme to support your learning and development.
Ultimately once trained, you will be part of a team of 20+ Vehicle Technicians, HGV Technicians, MOT Testers, Apprentices and other workshop personnel. Based in the large, modern and heated workshop, you’ll be servicing and repairing a wide range of HGVs.
There will also be the opportunity to undertake supported/funded HGV driving tests too.
There are no minimum requirements for this role however we would ideally like to see the following attributes in candidate’s applications…
- An interest in mechanics, trucks, HGVs!
- A friendly, communicative and well-organised team-player attitude
- Enjoys problem-solving and completing challenges
- Likes working with others and learning from them
- Is happy to be away from home for one week at a time, a few times per year
- Ideally has a car and driving licence (due to workshop location) however this is not essential
- Is IT literate and has a good grades at GCSE English & Maths (or predicted)
- Is punctual, reliable and committed to their work and learning opportunities
Dependent on the age of the individual, there are two possible shifts you may work in this role.
Under 18: For legal and insurance purposes Apprentices under the age of 18 must work 40 hours per week from 8am - 5pm Monday to Friday.
Those over the age of 18 have the option to work either the above day shift hours of 8am - 5pm Monday to Friday OR they can go on the standard shift which is a 44-hour working week with a weekly rotating shift of 7am - 3pm one week then 2pm-10pm the following week.
An Apprentice rate of £3.90 per hour is offered for the first 12 months of apprenticeship regardless of age. After 12 months completed apprenticeship, those over the age of 18 will receive the appropriate national minimum wage until the full apprenticeship has been completed.
All training and qualifications paid for in full as well as expenses. As well as being provided with an in-depth and structured on-the-job training, you will also be put on a block release training programme with MAN Truck & Bus Training College to achieve your formal training. You will also be supported and funded for HGV driving tests too!
Our client also offer 29 days annual leave entitlement (including 8 bank holidays), profit related bonuses, all PPE provided, and pension scheme.
