Apprentice- Fleet Administrative Assistant

Salary: £15,350 per annum

Full Time: 40 hours per week

Based at Albert Road, Bristol, BS2 0XS


Bristol Waste Company is responsible for refuse and recycling collection, street cleansing and waste disposal for the people of Bristol. We also run the city’s two Household Waste Recycling Centres plus a growing Commercial waste business. We are seeking to recruit an Administrative Assistant Apprentice to join our team based at Albert Road Depot.

A key part of this is the clear need to influence behavioural change in the city with regard to waste, recycling and litter, and to involve and empower citizens, community groups and businesses, so that, together, we can make Bristol a cleaner and greener place that wastes nothing.


The purpose of this role is to provide efficient and effective administrative support to designated service areas.

Duties will include general office administration such as filling, photocopying, compiling emails, scanning, sorting and distributing of post, ordering and allocating equipment and operational resources. The administrative assistant will assist with maintaining manual and computerised systems by inputting data and updating records and statistics. Finally, the assistant will provide general reception duties such as welcoming visitors as well assisting the Business Support Officer with a defined range of admin tasks.

Requirements: It is essential to have the ability to prioritise and manage time effectively to ensure agreed deadlines are met, as well as having proficient IT skills with a good working knowledge of word processing (Microsoft Word or equivalent) and spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel or equivalent) and a willingness to learn new applications and technology as appropriate.

The successful candidate must have good analytical/problems solving skills and effective communication skills. They will be able to demonstrate the ability to work on own initiative, both independently and co-operatively as part of a team, as well as the ability to file and retrieve information, both in paper and electronic formats. Imperatively, the successful candidate will have an understanding of the need to handle information securely and confidentially, demonstrable numeracy skills with the ability to undertake accurate calculations. Functional skills are essential, and evidence will be requested.

Special condition: The successful candidate is required to undertake college or study to complete Level 3 Business Admin qualification during the paid working week (study may be weekly or in block periods); and is required to complete and pass each part of the apprenticeship qualification to continue each year of the apprenticeship.
