£DOE Basic Salary + Training + Very Competitive Package

The Role

Take responsibility for developing system solutions by producing circuit designs, specifying components also creating and issuing instructions to allow product realisation. With opportunity to manage a variety of large and small projects, your role will include the preparation of circuits, quotations, specifications, instructions and plans encompassing both technical and commercial activity. Strong communication skills to implement quality checks and to support production evaluation at every stage from inception to delivery will be required. Working knowledge of hydraulic symbols and circuit design. Experience in the manufacture of pipe work systems and fabrications would be an advantage.

Functional Responsibilities:

To produce and issue electro-hydraulic design solutions for the business:

  • Producing complete, accurate, clear design solutions without ambiguity in accordance with company standards
  • Producing complete, accurate, clear design briefs considering interfaces, constraints, features and boundaries without ambiguity in accordance with company standards

To keep up to date with new product developments in defined industry sector(s) in order to enhance business decision making by:

  • Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of trends in Electro-Hydraulics and controls systems including design and manufacture, project management - systems engineering and methodology
  • Developing an understanding of the companies products and services, customers and competitors including the business environment
  • Sharing information and ideas to enable others to build their understanding of Electro-Hydraulics and control systems and the departments objectives
  • Analysing what is required to develop and deliver quotations and design solutions and meet department targets

To contribute to the overall department objectives and plan by:

  • Identifying and utilising opportunities and suggestions for growth
  • Proactively supporting industry sales objectives, customer sales enquiries and targeting potential customers
  • Agreeing job requirements and competencies, participating in relevant training and development programmes including performance reviews and associate surveys and to seek support as required
  • Monitoring and sharing of own progress and addressing any changes, taking corrective action as required
  • Communicating regularly with other associates, department and individuals involved in the business considering the design solutions produced so as to ensure rapid two way flow of information and immediate contribution to effective team working

To take joint responsibility for the planning of activities including time - delivery, and financial - cost, and quality are met by:

  • Contributing to the development of department objectives
  • Delivering activities to meet these objectives
  • Monitoring progress and addressing any variances/changes
  • Ensuring quality standards and customer requirements are met

To ensure efficient and effective utilisation of financial and physical resources are met by:

  • Maximising the use of resources and identifying and eliminating waste
  • Contributing to the setting of systems, policies, procedures including working instructions and standards, ensuring that they fit and - or enhance with others used in the business
  • Balancing cost or risk vs. benefit when specifying or recommending any changes
  • Ensuring time and overheads are correctly accounted for
  • Monitoring changes for cost and delivery implications, reviewing and communicating progress to effected departments and the customer
  • Tracking of commercial and technical performance of design solution to evaluate price or margin and 'return on quotations' to recommend improvements

General Responsibilities:

To contribute to the delivery of electro - hydraulic systems design through undertaking an agreement of individual objectives, targets and success criteria including:

  • Developing and managing the project plan for defined engineering jobs/projects, in conjunction with other departments
  • Preparing detailed quotations, specifications and special test procedures as required
  • Consulting with the design engineers (OEM's design department or the engineering department), to facilitate all aspects of the design function and approve contract drawings (circuits and assemblies)
  • Negotiating contracts, reviewing terms and conditions in line with agreed profit margins
  • Managing sub-contractors, including ensuring delivery schedules and the production of operating and maintenance manuals meet customer specifications and quality standards
  • Identifying the relevant quality requirements that arise, enabling the content of inspection test plans to be defined
  • Providing technical support for company manufactured and approved sourced products to both internal and external customers
  • Designing circuits, preparing accurate part lists, specifications and special test procedures to company Standards
  • Supporting workshop testing and commissioning and/or fault finding at customers' premises - site, as required
