We have an exciting opportunity for an Animal Care Assistant to join the team at RSPCA West Hatch on a casual basis.
This role is fundamental to the operation of the animal centre’s core objective to admit animals in need from our Inspectorate team, provide a tailored programme of veterinary care, rehabilitation and husbandry, and then match the animal to a suitable adopter.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can learn and adapt quickly, work well in a team and have previous experience of caring for a wide range of domestic and farm animal species - from dogs and cats to ferrets, lovebirds and pigs. Positive attitude is all-important as this these roles are both physically and mentally challenging.
What you’ll be doing:
Cleaning animal accommodation, pen fixtures and furniture and general areas
Feeding animals and administering treatments
Providing exercise opportunities and following individual training and behaviour plans
Completing animal records and updating the computer database
Stocking and maintaining the centre - eg preparing bedding, tidying stores, performing basic maintenance tasks
Engaging with customers on the phone, face to face and by email
A genuine interest in animal care and welfare
Experience of working with domestic animals, perferably in an animal rescue setting
Good communication skills
Good customer care skills
A good level of computer experience and literacy
The ability to remain calm under pressure

This is a flexible working relationship as we are unable to guarantee set hours or days. Work will be on a casual basis entails filling essential gaps in the roster caused by holiday or sickness.
