IT at the Coventry is changing; we are currently undertaking an exciting transformation project that will shape the future of the organisation. As we progress on our journey we are seeking talented individuals who are passionate about delivering an outstanding experience for both members and colleagues in an environment where you will have the opportunity to be part of the future success of the organisation and work in an environment where personal and professional development is taken seriously.
Are you looking for a role in a growing, thriving department where you are not only empowered to learn, but also to challenge and see your efforts ultimately having a tangible impact on both the business and our members? We're right in the middle of a massive technology transformation (did someone say cloud?), so there is an opportunity to get involved in a wide range of technologies ranging from Adobe AEM, .Net (WCF, MVC and some legacy WebForms.. we're working on that though), Middleware (IBM IIB and MQ, Datapower, API Connect), Java, SQL Server to Oracle. And that's not an exhaustive list either, we've got other technologies available but most importantly, we value your opinion in what we should be doing and where we should be heading. In our Technology Radar sessions, Developers and Architects regularly meet up to discuss tools and technologies we'd like to use to make our lives better.
Whilst we need to support our standard business hours of 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, we also recognise the importance and value in having the correct work/life balance. We have a variety of roles with both full time and part time hours, and also we realise that offering flexibility around the standard hours or the ability to work from home is key to getting the balance right. Other perks include pension contributions, performance related bonuses, discounts at a wide variety of big chains and of course, food. We love to eat, especially when it involves raising money for charity which just so happens to be another of our big passions. As well as the many samosa and cake sales, you can have 2 days paid community work to help out charitable causes. We've also been a call centre for Children in Need for the last three years which is a very popular event with people at all levels getting involved, right up to the CEO! Or you could Pedal to Paris, run a Marathon or a Triathlon, compete in mock-Olympic events - when it comes to charity there is something for everyone. We also love Employee Engagement, so much so we're in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to work for. Despite how much of the naughtier foods are on offer, we do have a Wellbeing initiative which amongst other things provides access to healthy alternatives such as free fruit.
And it's not all work, work, work - everyone is allocated 20% of their time for personal development and other non-project work. So that could be taking advantage of our in-house learning, Pluralsight courses, conferences or even joining in with the many different Communities of Practice that meet up on a regular basis. The choice is yours.
So what does day to day look like? As well as working with some of the technologies we mentioned above there are also various daily stand-ups and then planning sessions or retrospectives to attend. You'll find yourself quite becoming quite attached to Git, JIRA and Confluence, the products we use for storing code, work tracking and for collaborative knowledge sharing. Throw in the Communities of Practice and our Hack Days, where a mixed group of people from across IT and the business will get together to solve a range of issues, and you have enough to keep everyone happy.
Experience in any of the following would be helpful:
- Familiarity with the .Net Framework, (C#, MVC, WebAPI, WCF)
- Understanding of software design patterns and principles
- Writing clean, robust and readable code
- Testing (includes unit testing, test-driven development, test automation)
- Continuous integration
- Agile methodologies and tools
If you are keen on making a difference, open to collaboration and willing to embrace new technologies then we’d love to hear from you.
