An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner to take up the role working in the acute setting within General Paediatrics.

The paediatric services at ELHT consists of General Paediatrics, Community and Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics, and East Lancashire Child and Adolescent Services. Together these specialities make up the largest centralised children’s service in the North West and one of

the largest in the country.

Services are delivered from both Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospital as well as from a range of community clinics, Child Development Centres and Children’s centres across East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen.

The General Paediatric Service consists of a team of 21 General Paediatricians working closely together with the nursing team of which the APNP is an integral part. The role of the APNP would predominantly be based on the Children’s Observation and Assessment Unit but would also be required to support the 54 bedded Children’s Inpatient Unit inclusive of 4 high dependency beds.

The post holder will work on the medical rota and be primarily responsible for the acute assessment and diagnosis of children and young people producing management and treatment plans for ongoing care to provide a safe and quality service. They will be responsible for timely reviews They will also have the opportunity to support the Paediatric Strategy, alongside the Assistant Director of Nursing. In association with the Clinical Director and Directorate Manager for the service to enhance specialist nurse led services, improve pathways and develop an enhanced multi-disciplinary approach. This includes looking at new ways of working and models of care.

The successful candidate will be expected to work across a 7 day service working closely with the paediatric medical team and nursing teams to deliver care that is Safe, Personal and Effective.
