About the Role

This is a Senior AMHP position with Specialist Services which includes small specialist teams including Community Forensic and Substance Misuse services. You will be required to have experience in the mental health service and a good understanding of forensic or substance misuse services with good assessment and excellent risk management skills.

You will work as part of the integrated team providing day-to-day operational leadership to a directly customer facing team. This is a specialist post and there is an expectation of team and autonomous working across areas.

Working within the legislative framework of the local authority you will be required to meet the appropriate statutory legislation applicable to the Mental Health Act. The post holder will undertake all relevant training in order to meet the registration requirements and will continue with professional development in order to maintain social work skills and up-to-date knowledge of applicable legislation.

You will be expected to work flexibly and support Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHP’s), which will include working to the professional capabilities framework and to providing advice and guidance to colleagues. Some duties may be required outside normal office hours (assessments) and as working as a senior, there will be a need to offer support and direction to individuals who work with people who exhibit challenging and complex behaviours.

A valid driver’s licence and the availability of an insured vehicle for the performance of work related duties is an essential requirement of the role. Applications from those who do not meet this requirement will not be considered.

The post holder will be required to take direct day-to-day operational responsibility, including providing specialist support through a range of different service provisions, risk assessments and reviews. You will be promoting the personalisation agenda via self directed support for service users and carers who are eligible for services, and a good understanding of the Care Act is required.

You will need to be flexible and adaptable to work in a challenging and demanding environment. The team are friendly and cohesive and are proud of their record in providing an effective service in the community.

You will be provided with good support from managers and colleagues, to help you meet the challenges of the post. New staff are given mentoring and support from an experienced colleague and will also participate in an extensive induction programme.

 Essential criteria for the role –

  • Social work qualification (and registered with HCPC)
  • Minimum of two years experience and practice in an Approved Mental Health Professional role.
  • Maintain personal Approved Mental Health Professional status (Warranted)
  • Experience of working with people who use services in the forensic or substance misuse area
