Surrey Adult Learning employs up to 300 part time tutors to deliver learning for adults.  Courses are offered in a wide range of subjects including Art, Craft, IT, Languages, Humanities, Maths, English, Cookery, Exercise, Dance, Supported Learning, Family Learning, Outreach and ESOL. 

Salary: Our current rate of pay ranges between £20.24 - £24.28 per hour, plus 14% or 16% annual leave entitlement dependent on length of service with Surrey County Council. This rate includes preparation time and travelling.

Working Hours: This is a zero hours (bank) contract. The amount of work you are offered will depend on the number and type of courses scheduled. A typical course could run over one, two, or three terms for up to two hours per week (day and/or evening classes) as well as occasional Saturday workshops. Please note that in some cases courses might not be viable due to low enrolments and may be cancelled.

Location: Classes run in the north and south west of Surrey and are based around seven main centres: Guildford, Camberley, Farnham, Woking, Esher Green, Sunbury and Molesey. Family Learning and Outreach courses are run across Surrey in schools and Community Centres.

An enhanced DBS ‘Disclosure and Barring Service’ check may be required for some roles.

About the Role

Tutors are required to have qualifications/expertise in their subject area as well as a teaching qualification (or be working towards one), such as the Level 3 award in Education & Training, and to have experience of teaching adults.

Family Learning - Early Years, Wellbeing (East Surrey) Daytime courses.

Arts & Crafts – Tailoring (Woking), Sculpture (Woking), Pottery (Woking, Esher), Mount Cutting, Picture Framing.

Work Skills and IT – Web Design (Camberley, Woking)

Languages - German (Camberley, Esher, Guildford), French (Camberley, Farnham, Guildford), Spanish (Esher, Farnham, Guildford), Greek (Camberley, Farnham, (Guildford)), Japanese (Guildford), Italian (Guildford), Mandarin (Guildford)

Movement (inc. Dance) & Wellbeing - Exercise (Sunbury, Molesey, Farnham, Guildford), Restorative Yoga (Woking), Pilates (Molesey, Camberley), Bridge (Camberley) Ballroom (Guildford, Woking, Camberley), Herbal Medicine (Guildford, Camberley)

Cookery - (Molesey)

Outreach.   A rewarding and exciting opportunity to work as a sessional tutor delivering Outreach courses in the community.  A wide range of subjects are required. You will receive additional support from your line manager.  Opportunities to share skills, knowledge and experiences of Outreach teaching are encouraged. 

Lipreading. (Woking, Camberley)

Supported Learning. Tutors required to teach adults with learning disabilities in the following subjects/areas: English & Maths (all centres), Arts & Crafts (Camberley), Performing Arts/Theatre Studies (Farnham, Guildford, Camberley), IT/Media (Guildford), Exploring the local community (Guildford), Advocacy Skills (Camberley, Guildford), Preparation for Volunteering (Camberley, Guildford), Independent Skills (Molesey, Sunbury). We are always interested in talking to experienced tutors who can teach subjects on the attached list.

We are also looking for tutors with experience of working with learners recovering from mild to moderate mental health issues for our Passport to Wellbeing courses.
