Acute Kidney Injury Clinical Lead

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic senior clinician to lead our Trusts approach to the management of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI).

The role will support the reduction of incidence of hospital acquired AKI by work with colleagues across our Trust and in primary care to improve the management of AKI including emergency admissions.
The role will be delivered within 1 PA per week and be in addition to your existing duties. You must have discussed your expression of interest with your Care Groups Clinical Director prior to submitting an expression of interest.
The AKI lead clinician must be registered with a license to practise in the UK by the GMC. The candidate must have been registered as a medical practitioner throughout the previous five years as at the date of appointment.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of AKI, experience in caring for these patients and have an understanding of the challenges facing our Trust and be capable of taking the lead in driving forward improvements of high standards of care across all of our Trusts hospital sites.

The principal responsibilities of the AKI clinical lead are:
To update the Executive Medical Director and executive Chief Nurse on the latest national
advice for AKI
To maintain a Trust wide oversight of AKI and be the point of contact, for clinical operational
To provide advice and guidance to service managers and their teams on day to day matters.
To ensure that training is delivered across the Trust which incorporates the most up to date
national guidance.
To develop policies, guidelines and protocols which incorporate ethical concerns ensuring that
these are disseminated and implemented across the Trust.
To be responsible for ensuring that training is delivered to all operational clinical teams
including junior doctors which are responsive to the latest national guidance.
To attend relevant local, and national activities in order to maintain up to date knowledge and
to ensure compliance with legal and procedural requirements associated with the current
processes relating to AKI.
To ensure active participation of clinicians in any relevant governance activities relating to AKI.
This will include leading and participating in audits and investigations where appropriate and
responding to complaints within the Trust’s expected timescale.
