Role and Responsibilities

The Accountant’s key responsibility is auditing accounts, providing financial advice and undertaking accounts management and administration. This role requires looking after organizational finances and implementing strategies to improve profitability. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring Companies’ financial performance, forecasting and planning future spending and profits. The Accountant is required to be competent in a number of areas. It’s important that the accountant has impeccable standards when it comes to both competence and behaviour.

The role is mainly office based; usually working 9am - 5pm, however there may be occasions, such as financial year end, when it will be required to put in some overtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare profit and loss statements on behalf of a business

  • Set up accounting practices and procedures and advise how to manage these

  • Analyse budgets and other financial information

  • Help to produce budgets for Companies and implement strategies for cost savings

  • Ensure Companies accounts and tax returns are prepared and filed correctly and on time

  • Oversee the Companies’ payroll, credit control and bookkeeping systems

  • Audit financial information and compiling with reports, business plans and financial statements

  • Financial forecasting and risk analysis

  • Dealing with insolvency cases

  • Managing colleagues, workloads and deadlines

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Honours Degree through relevant subjects such as accounting, business or economics

  • The qualification with a professional accounting body (chartered status) will be advantageous e.g. ACCA, CIMA, IFA, ICAEW, ICAI or ICAS

  • Must have at least three years of relevant work experience


  • Ability to reflect on the wider consequences of financial decisions

  • Business acumen and interest

  • Ability to manage deadline and organizational skills

  • Proficiency in IT and competent in Excel

  • Proven analytical ability

  • A methodical approach and problem-solving skills

  • High level of numeracy and ability to explain financial information clearly

  • Able to develop good working relationships

  • Honesty and discretion
