It supports a data-driven approach to identifying and making improvements in how the department operates and interacts with customers.The Data Science Academy is a new initiative which will ensure that the department not only recruits and retains enough data scientists, but also establishes and provides career support and development opportunities, delivering impact right across HMRC.The role of the Academy will be as a central hub, providing professional leadership, guidance and opportunities to all data scientists, and those with an interest in getting involved in one of the most exciting, challenging and fastest growing areas of the business.The TeamThis role is in the multi-disciplinary central Data Science team, made up of around 70 staff from a range of analytical professions, IT and project management, It's a young and dynamic team who already have a significant impact on the business.Job descriptionDo you want to get involved in something exciting, and in at the ground floor when you can help mould what the future looks like?That's what this role offers, a chance for you to help design, build and run the Data Science Academy, in a department with one of the largest and most active data science communities in government.If you are organised, full of ideas, keen to make quick decisions, and passionate about supporting and enabling learning and development, then this is the right job for you.The role will provide the opportunity for a high level of autonomy and decision making, and the chance to be involved in areas of personal interest. There is also the opportunity of gaining a working knowledge of data science projects and products, and an appreciation of how data science is used within HMRC and government to support strategic priorities.ResponsibilitiesWorking with the Academy Lead you will be the Data Science Academy, responsible for not only the day to day running, the engagement with the community, but also feeding into the longer-term vision and strategy.This will include: Administration of the Academy Management of the communications tools Developing learning and development pathways Supporting the organisation of community eventsEssential: Experience of project management and delivery Experience of working to deadlines, both individually and as part of a team Ability to engage effectively with a range of people Keen interest in learning and development, for self and others Experience of communicating through various meansDesirable: An understanding of what data science can do Experience of managing a service or support functionBenefits Learning and development tailored to your role An environment with flexible working options A culture encouraging inclusion and diversity A Civil Service pensionTeam members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period.
