Location: Solihull - covering Bristol area

The Academy Partnership Development Manager (PDM) provides the primary point of contact between new Academy Wealth Profesionals (Partners & Advisers) and SJP. As such it is a significant role in SJP’s relationship with each new Partner and Adviser and places a key responsibility on the PDM to ensure that new Partners and Advisers carry out their activities representing SJP in an appropriate manner. This can be summarised as acting in a manner that is in keeping with the guidance and expectations set out in 'The St. James’s Place Partnership - What it means to be a member’ document.

The PDM undertakes the regulatory responsibility of 'Nominated Supervisor’ for a team of Partners and Advisers. As such the PDM is accountable for the activity and behaviour of Partners and Advisers within their team.

This includes ensuring that Partners and Advisers:

  • Have appropriate knowledge and skills
  • Provide high quality advice and ongoing service
  • Have appropriately monitored personal finances
  • Abide by the requirements set out in 'The St. James’s Place Partnership - What it means to be a member’ document

It also requires the PDM to take the necessary steps to gather information/evidence in order to confirm that the Partner and Adviser is:

  • Competent in their client dealings
  • Operating within our risk appetite
  • Meeting the requirements of the SJP T&C Scheme.

Business Development:

  • The PDM should work closely with their FMT colleagues to ensure the smooth implementation and establishment of the Academy Wealth Professionals
  • Establishes rapport with new Partners and Advisers, developing trust and credibility as an effective guide and coach throughout their time with the Academy. Nurtures and develops an effective contracting process with the new Partner or Adviser so that they know what is expected, and what to expect, from the PDM
  • Jointly works as problem solver, colleague and guide alongside the new Partner or Adviser so that they gain confidence in the entire Field Management Team
  • The PDM works with Wealth Professionals to assist them in maximising their business potential within SJP and to support the achievement of corporate growth objectives. The primary task for a PDM is to establish with each new Academy Partner or Adviser individually to agree a way of working together which includes supporting new joiners through; External & internal qualifications, Skills and knowledge development, Sharing best practice, Attending meetings with clients and highlighting opportunities for Partners and Advisers to work together for mutual benefit

Regulatory Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and enhances the quality of advice provided by the St. James’s Place Partnership to ensure that SJP is meeting the FCA’s TCF Outcome Four - where consumers receive advice, the advice is suitable and re?ects their needs, priorities and circumstances
  • Responsible for managing the output and performance of the Partnership in line with our values and principles of treating our clients fairly (being both our internal (Partner and Adviser) clients and external clients)
  • Ensures that Academy Partners & Advisers’ day-to-­day business activities include (where appropriate):
  • Creating processes that meet the needs of our clients efficiently and effectively
  • Making decisions with clients’ best interests in mind
  • Keeping clients suitably informed within appropriate timescales
  • Support new joiners on SJP’s Quality of Advice documentation standards, and coaches effectively on the feedback received from the Business Assurance Checking Team. Thereby adhering to the required programme of independent business checking in order to help the Partner or Adviser move quickly through the different stages of supervision, whilst growing their knowledge of the standards expected
  • Implements and maintains the required SJP systems to ensure that Partners and Advisers within their team meet with the FCA’s objectives and the principles of good regulation
  • Ensures that new Partners and Advisers develop the knowledge and skills necessary to write, document and submit business within SJP guidelines and to required standards
  • Works closely with new joiners and their practice members to identify problems early on, and agree the options on how to resolve them within the compliance guidelines
  • Uses Business Checking feedback, MI, audit information and trend analysis to maintain a clear understanding of each new joiner’s business

Business Support Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates the development of the Partnership to enhance their knowledge and skills
  • Leads their team of Partners and Advisers to encourage new business growth in line with their objectives
  • Provides support as appropriate for Partners and Advisers to help them achieve appropriate professional qualifications and maintain appropriate knowledge through CPD
  • Inspires and encourages appropriate strategy, operational activity and best practice aimed at enhancing the quality of the new joiners business and their results
  • Encourages best practice in business planning, marketing, systems, people management, and administration in order to create a sound and robust Partner or Adviser capable of achieving long-term growth and productivity
  • Remains close to sources of new joiners, and where necessary provides introductions of potential recruits to the business
  • Encourages and aids Partners and Advisers in developing the infrastructure of their businesses, so that they maximise the security of the business and its processes
  • Keeps the Head of Business up to date on key matters and risks that involve the Partner’s and Adviser’s business
