Congratulations and welcome to the world of employment!
So you've just spent 3-4 years (and lots of money!) studying towards that degree, all the hard work has paid off and you can proudly say that you are now a graduate; raring to kick start a long term career that will pay off those student loans (and overdrafts) and put every bit of stress you experienced to good use.
But where do you start?
The employment market has become an incredibly competitive place, with hundreds of graduates battling it out for the best graduate schemes, and training programmes. You need experience to get that no-experienced required role, or you missed out to that candidate that has been able to fund themselves through 2 Master's Degrees, whilst you were juggling studies, with a tough part time telesales, and evening bar work to get through the month!
There is a place for you! It might just not be something you had thought of before...
Recruitment offers bright, ambitious individuals an opportunity to use every skill-set gained, to build a rewarding, sociable, professional and lucrative career. You are given in-depth training, you are rewarded for hard work, but more over, you are completely in control of the level of success you reach.
We are a sociable industry, so it only makes sense that we like sociable people. Bags of confidence, lots of character and tons of drive will ensure that you do well in recruitment. In return, lots of fantastic agencies offer casual Friday's, fizz Friday's, team lunches, team celebrations, top performer trips- both UK and overseas, nights out, subsidised sports, and an awful lot more.
From a career perspective, the harder you work, the higher you go. You have the chance to be promoted quickly, see regular salary reviews, reach management status, right up to Director level with time and lots of elbow grease!
You just have to really want it!
Recruitment is not for the work shy, and it's certainly not for quitters. It's for people who can see the long term potential; people that understand that hard work breeds results, that a no right now could mean a yes tomorrow, and that a solid service is more important than a quick win. You will have stressful and sometimes, downright awful days in recruitment, but you will be surrounded by people who have been through the same thing and come out on top. The trick is learning to overcome these periods, and come back fighting.
Recruitment is essentially a sales industry. You will 'sell' vacancies to candidates, you will 'sell' your agency on a daily basis through social media, adverts, phone calls, emails; and you will 'sell' the service you provide to clients. The conversations you will be having every day will be sales conversations- every chat, building relationships for the future, and gaining connections that could be very useful to you later down the line.
This is an intelligent, mutually beneficial sales industry, where clients can become friends, candidates can become clients and competitors can become your biggest help.
