111 IUC CAS Pharmacist

Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) Clinical Advice Service (CAS) Pharmacist

This is an exciting time to join the SECAmb 111 IUC (Integrated Urgent Care) team as we are looking to expand our team of multi-disciplinary clinicians and in particular, increase our number of Pharmacists.

Full-time and part-time opportunities available, with the opportunity to combine this role with your existing role to enhance your skills and experience.

Salary - Band 7 - 37,570 - £43,772 + up to 60% unsocial hours uplift!

The NHS 111 IUC service provides telephone assessment to the general public wishing to contact a GP or seek general health advice and management.

The types of calls you will manage include prescription medication enquiries, minor illness, toxic ingestion and health information enquiries.

You will also support Clinical Advisors in both the NHS 111 IUC service and the Emergency Operations Centres (EOC) in 999, in addition to our A&E Field Operations teams.

Benefits include:

  • Excellent unsocial working hours uplift
  • Flexible working hours
  • Potential for remote working after 6 months
  • Generous NHS Pension
  • 27 days holiday, increasing over time with service

To be considered for this role, you must have at least three years post-registration experience working within a clinical environment, which could include Medicines Information. In addition to holding an appropriate UK Pharmacy Degree (BSc/MPharm), you will also need to be a member of the General Pharmaceutical Council. Holding an Independent Prescriber qualification or currently working towards this would be desirable but is not essential.

You will need knowledge and experience of providing clinical advice/information over the telephone. Experience of following NHS Pathways is useful, but not essential.

You will need excellent telephone communication skills, be self-motivated and able to manage your own work load.

We are looking for the following:

  • Permanent part-time contracts
  • Permanent full-time contracts
  • Rotas that include working weekdays, late afternoon into evenings, Saturdays and Sundays

There will be a requirement to work Bank Holidays and this will attract enhancements under Section 2 of the NHS Agenda for Change.

You would also be expected to work in partnership as an expert resource with GP out of hours, and the wider SECAmb organisation.

You would be line managed and accountable to the Operations Manager Clinical, with professional oversight provided by the Trust’s Chief Pharmacist.

If you are a current SECAmb employee, by applying for this position, if successful you will move to the terms and conditions associated with the post. Any unsocial hours payments will be paid under the Section 2 agreement of agenda for change. Section 2 unsocial hours will need to be claimed via your monthly timesheet. More information regarding section 2 can be found in the Agenda for Change handbook and on the dedicated section 2 policy page on The Zone.

Please be aware, while this post will begin in Coxheath by the spring of 2022 we expect to move into new premises in Bredgar Road, Gillingham.

This new multi-purpose ambulance centre will comprise of a Make Ready Centre - a vehicle preparation system which sees specialist teams of staff employed to clean, restock and maintain the Trust’s fleet - and our 999 EOC East and NHS 111 IUC operations teams, currently based in Coxheath and Ashford, on the upper two floors of a modern, open-plan office complete with training, rest and wellbeing facilities.

This is a really positive, cooperative change whereby we will be operating Field Operations, 999 and our 111 services from the same building - we will be only the second Ambulance Trust in the country to unite both our 999 and 111 services in this way.

The move will vastly improve the working environment for our East EOC and 111 colleagues and mirror the Trust’s West Emergency Operations Centre, based in Crawley, which opened in 2017.

Please give this due consideration before continuing your application with us.
