Overview

The Pitman Training Virtual Assistant Diploma is designed for anyone who wants to provide flexible administrative and business support services to entrepreneurs, sole traders and growing organisations. It is particularly suitable for learners who want to work independently, create a home-based business or develop a flexible career that can fit around other commitments.

Virtual Assistants provide far more than basic administration. Depending on your clients, you could manage communications, organise meetings, maintain records, support projects, coordinate remote teams, update social media accounts or assist with bookkeeping. This diploma prepares you for that variety by combining professional office skills with the commercial knowledge required to operate and promote your own business.

You will develop a clear understanding of how a Virtual Assistant business works, how to identify and reach potential clients, and how to deliver a reliable, professional service. The programme includes essential training in marketing, business accounts, remote working, project management, social media strategy and digital collaboration.

Core subjects include:

• VA Essentials
• Marketing Essentials
• Understanding Business Accounts
• Instagram for Business
• Facebook for Business
• SEO for Business
• Social Media Strategy for Business
• Microsoft Teams
• Microsoft SharePoint
• Working Remotely
• Project+

You will also choose four elective courses, allowing you to shape the diploma around your existing experience and the services you plan to offer. Options include Bookkeeping, Excel, Word, Outlook, Google Docs, Sage 50 Accounts, Audio Transcription, Time Management, Business Communication, WordPress for Business, Zoom, OneDrive, Speedwriting, and Successful Meetings and Minutes.

This ability to personalise your learning is one of the programme’s major strengths. You can build specialist capabilities that match the needs of your target clients, whether you intend to focus on administration, finance, communications, digital marketing or business operations.

The diploma is delivered through flexible study, allowing you to work at a pace that suits your employment, family and personal commitments. The guideline learning time is approximately 155 hours, or around six weeks of full-time study based on 20 to 30 hours per week. Support is available from experienced Pitman Training Learning Coaches throughout your programme.

Description

What you will study

The programme begins with VA Essentials. This introduces the responsibilities of a Virtual Assistant and the considerations involved in establishing and managing a VA business.

Marketing Essentials explains how to research a market, identify potential customers and develop a practical marketing plan. You will explore advertising, website design and the principles used to position and promote services effectively.

Understanding Business Accounts provides essential financial knowledge for anyone running a small business. It will help you understand how business finances are recorded and monitored, giving you a stronger foundation for managing your own operation and supporting clients with routine financial administration.

The digital marketing element of the diploma includes Instagram for Business and Facebook for Business. These courses examine how organisations can use major social platforms to increase visibility, communicate with audiences and promote their services.

SEO for Business explains the principles of search engine optimisation and how website content can be improved to attract relevant online traffic. Social Media Strategy for Business builds on this by helping you plan coordinated social media activity that supports defined business objectives.

Microsoft Teams develops the skills needed to organise virtual meetings, exchange messages and collaborate on shared documents. Microsoft SharePoint covers the storage, organisation, sharing and retrieval of information across devices.

Working Remotely addresses the practical and professional requirements of remote work. Topics include creating an effective workspace, contributing to virtual teams, collaborating online and developing the resilience required to work independently.

Project+ introduces the project lifecycle. You will learn how projects are defined, planned, implemented, completed and evaluated. These skills can help you coordinate client assignments and manage work involving several tasks, deadlines or stakeholders.
