Description
Unconscious bias is a term used to describe the associations that we hold which, despite being outside our conscious awareness, can have a significant influence on our attitudes and behaviours especially towards other people.
In this course you will gain knowledge on what biases we may have and how these biases may impact our own life and also the lives of others.
You will gain insight into the different types of unconscious bias, case studies and examples of unconscious bias. The types of bias you will cover include – ageism bias, gender bias, name bias, race/colour/culture bias, characteristic bias, confirmation bias, attribution bias, affinity bias, beauty bias and horns and halo effect bias.
You will then examine how unconscious bias impacts the workplace and strategies to mitigate bias in the recruitment, you will then gain awareness on how to recognise and control unconscious bias in the workplace.
By the end of the course you will have gained a greater insight into unconscious bias and how to manage it in the workplace.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
- Unit 1 – Understanding unconscious bias- In the first unit of our unconscious bias course, you will investigate what unconscious bias means, consider what causes unconscious bias and the different types of unconscious bias are. You will then finish the first unit by learning how to recognise unconscious bias in yourself and in others.
- Unit 2 – The types of unconscious bias and examples – In this unit you will explore examples of different types of unconscious bias in every day life, look at case studies depicting these different types of unconscious bias, you will then reflect the case studies too.
- Unit 3 – Unconscious bias in the workplace – This unit will examine how unconscious bias impact the workplace, discover how bias can impact the recruitment process and consider strategies to mitigate bias in recruitment recruitment. The unit will finish with exploring bias in workplace performance, opportunities and promotion, as well as the legal implication of bias in the workplace.
- Unit 4 – Controlling and overcoming unconscious bias – In our final unit you will look at the ways individuals can appreciate the importance of diversity in the workplace, recognise and control unconscious bias in the workplace, you will also explore how to overcome unconscious bias in the workplace. Finally you will consider how individuals can effect change in the workplace and attain equality and diversity in the workplace.
