Description

This is the standard route into the Transport Manager role for anyone managing a goods vehicle operator's licence. It meets the requirements set out in Regulation (EC) No 1071/2009 and is recognised by the Traffic Commissioners across the UK.

The course covers what a Transport Manager actually handles day to day. You'll study four modules:

  • Managing Business Operations: business and company law, commercial management, financial management, business taxation, human resources and industrial relations, business performance.

  • Managing Drivers: driver licensing and training, drivers' hours and records, scheduling and tachograph compliance.

  • Managing Compliance and Risk: operator licensing, road traffic accident procedures, insurance, planned preventative maintenance, plating and testing, weights and dimensions, safe loading and transit, traffic regulations and speed limits.

  • Managing Transport Operations: contracts and conditions of carriage, vehicle selection and costings, vehicle taxation, permits, Incoterms, frontier crossings, transport documentation, CMR, and budgeting.

Assessment has two parts. Paper 1 is a closed-book multiple-choice test covering core knowledge across all four modules (2 hours, pass mark 28/40). Paper 2 is an open-book case study assessment where you apply your learning to realistic haulage business scenarios (2 hours 15 minutes, pass mark 30/60). If you don't pass one paper, you resit that paper only.

The qualification is awarded by CILT(UK), regulated by Ofqual.
