Overview

The TQUK Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate (RQF) aims to enhance learners' knowledge and understanding of key principles and skills essential for various roles within the adult health and social care sector. These include topics such as equality and diversity, safeguarding, duty of care, health and safety, person-centred approaches, and information management. Since this qualification focuses on developing practical competence, learners are required to be employed in a paid role to allow for assessment.

In 2021, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) tasked Skills for Care with creating a specification grounded in the existing Care Certificate standards, resulting in a new accredited and portable qualification called the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate.

This qualification, regulated by Ofqual, involves observational assessments and typically takes new learners about 6 to 8 months to complete. More experienced care workers might finish it in less time. Additionally, it is now accessible to eligible non-regulated care staff aged 19 and over.

Successful learners can progress to other qualifications in health and social care, such as:

  • TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Preparation to Work in Adult Social Care (RQF)
  • TQUK Level 2 Diploma in Care (RQF)
  • TQUK Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (RQF)
  • TQUK Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care (RQF)
  • Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship

Successful learners can apply for job roles such as:

  • A care support worker is employed in adult social care residential or domiciliary services.
  • Healthcare assistants in the community.
  • Primary care and acute health environments
  • Supported living or day services
  • Community-based support workers
