Description
Learning outcomes
- You will know what is meant by Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND)
- You will understand the importance of early identification and intervention for children with SEND
- As a SENCo in an early years setting, you are responsible for ensuring children with SEND are getting the support they need and having their needs met. There may be times when the support the child needs is more than the early years setting can provide. This short course will describe the action you will need to take when this happens, the type of professionals you may need to work with outside of the setting, and how EHC plans work
Advantages of this course
- All early years providers are required to have arrangements in place to identify and support children with SEN or disabilities and to promote equality of opportunity for children in their care. This course will help learners understand special education provision in England, and the principles, guidance, and legislation that underpins the work of the SENCo
- This course will explore the strategies and techniques for supporting children and their families, including the local offer, Education Health and Care plans (EHC plans), and the graduated approach
- The work of an early years SENCo is important, varied, and requires excellent leadership and partnership working skills - if you are interested in taking on this role then this course will outline the tasks and responsibilities that you may be expected to take on
- Additional activities encourage you to reflect on your learning
- There is also suggested extended reading that gives both practical information and links to websites to expand knowledge
