Overview

This four-day diploma is made up of three popular PA courses and covers a breadth of skills specifically tailored to today’s office professional.

It covers core competencies that will enable you to take on a broader role to include areas of project management and budgeting. It will also enable you to take on increased responsibilities and give you more confidence when building relationships that are fundamental to your success.

The diploma is endorsed by The Institute of Administrative Management (IAM) - one of the oldest management institutes in the UK, having inspired professional business managers and administrators since 1915.

Description

Day 1 - Project Management Skills for Office Professionals

This part of the diploma will enable you to:

  • Recognise when to use your project management skills.
  • Avoid the most common causes of project failure.
  • Use a simple lifecycle and checklists to manage your project work.
  • Define the scope and constraints of each of your projects.
  • Plan each project using simple and easy to understand documentation.
  • Monitor, control and report on your projects using just a few key techniques.
  • Recognise when project handover and closure is required and what it involves.

Day 2 - Commercial and Business Awareness for Experienced PAs and Secretaries

This part of the diploma will enable you to:

  • Understand commercial and business issues facing your organisation.
  • Define the role and purpose of your organisation.
  • Understand the issues and dilemmas now facing organisations at a strategic level.
  • Recognise the key issues involved in change management.
  • Remove the myths and fears about finance and understand the jargon that surrounds it.

Day 3 and 4 - The Skilled Communicator and Relationship Builder

This part of the diploma will enable you to:

  • Understand the communication model.
  • Understand the three key elements of communication.
  • Identify barriers to communication and strategies to overcome these.
  • Experience first-hand how we create and maintain rapport.
  • Recognise your own and others’ communication styles.
  • Tailor your communication to include assertive, influential and motivational language.
  • Employ active listening skills to optimise communication.
  • Consider how to structure your communication – in person and in writing.
  • Understand the scope, benefits and limitations of different communication channels including working in a digital age and sharing best practice for email management.
  • Be able to identify and achieve individual and collaborative goals.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
