The Level 2 Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Schools is a nationally recognised study programme which has been designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working with children or young people in Primary, Secondary or Special Education Needs schools.

The course is comprised of 9 modules where you will learn about key areas such as children and young people’s development, safeguarding, and supporting those with disabilities or special educational needs.

The modules have been written by qualified teachers and the content has been taken directly from the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

  1. Learning styles.
  2. Effective lesson planning and preparation.
  3. Assessment within teaching.
  4. Effective classroom management strategies.
  5. The Pastoral System.
  6. The National Curriculum and effective teaching methods to address it.
  7. Safeguarding and Child Protection.
  8. Routes into teaching and the Initial Teacher Training (ITT) application process.
  9. Understanding learning disabilities.

The course will take approximately 36 hours to complete. Students will receive a full year to complete the course, which is a lot more time than you will need. This allows you to work at your own pace, without the pressure of tight deadlines.

Each of the nine modules is delivered by a fully qualified tutor in an online classroom. The classroom is a live interactive learning environment in which you will be able to see and talk to your tutor.

You are recommended to attend one lesson every week, in which case the course will take nine weeks to complete.

The lessons are designed to make your learning time as effective and constructive as possible. The online learning platform that we have in place is designed to accommodate students who find on-site training hard to access and you can fit it around other commitments such as your family, job and holidays.

The course material is exactly the same as you would expect to see in the on-site classroom however, the virtual classroom makes it a lot easier to receive relevant information where you will receive downloadable learning material and other information will be sent direct to you.

The course and lesson information will be displayed on your screen on an interactive whiteboard that both yourself and your tutor will be able to use.

At the end of the course successful learners will receive a Level 2 Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards.

ABC Awards is a leading national awarding organisation with a long-established reputation for high quality support and services to the educational sector.

Please Note** There is a certificate fee payable for this course.

Who is this course for?

The course is recommended for anyone wanting to work with children or young people in Primary, Secondary or Special Education Needs schools.

In order to successfully complete the course, students are required to complete one piece of homework for each module. The relevant piece of homework will be given to you by the tutor at the end of each lesson.
