Nothing gets to the heart of readers than stories with interesting plots, memorable characters they can identify with and dialogues that carry substance. However, coming up with a good story takes more than just passion. It also requires fundamental knowledge of writing, including its concepts of story structure, characterisation, perspective and so on. This course intends to deliver such knowledge and more.

At the end of this course, students should be able to: (1) get a handle of the basic concepts of writing including motive and beliefs, decisions,perspectives and outlook; (2) understand that value of detail, imagination and comprehension and non-verbal cues in writing a story; (3) create and elaborate on a plot; and (4) develop characters that readers can identify with.

To achieve these goals, this course shall make use of interactive materials to present the concepts of the topics to be discussed. Assessments shall be done after the entire course to check for knowledge retention and understanding.

Writing a good story comes with its own set of challenges, including maintaining plot consistency, ensuring character development and keeping readers engaged. However, all these things can be overcome by learning how to write and engaging in consistent practice.

Course Format

This course is divided into several modules and is delivered online through our interactive learning management system. Students are given access to the learning portal where they can access the course 24/7. This gives them complete control over the pace of their learning while also enabling them to study from home, in their offices or from a laptop while travelling.

Course Duration

Normative or minimum period of study to complete this is 45 hours. Take note that this is only an estimate.
