This Tai Chi Fundamentals course consists of six structured lesson groups, followed by an assessment, each designed to build understanding of Tai Chi principles and practice.
Lesson 1 introduces Tai Chi, focusing on course overview, benefits of Tai Chi, its historical background, philosophical foundations, and an overview of different Tai Chi styles and variations.
Lesson 2 explores the mind–body connection, covering proper body alignment and posture, breathing techniques used in Tai Chi, and mindfulness and relaxation principles that support effective practice.
Lesson 3 focuses on Tai Chi warm-up exercises, including gentle warm-up routines, stretching and mobility exercises, and introductory Qi Gong movements to prepare the body safely for practice.
Lesson 4 introduces basic Tai Chi movements, covering stances, weight shifting, hand and arm movements, stepping, and coordination. Learners develop awareness of balance and controlled movement.
Lesson 5 focuses on Tai Chi form practice, introducing a basic Tai Chi form such as a Yang Style 8-Form. Learners explore the form step by step and learn how individual movements combine into a smooth, flowing sequence.
Lesson 6 explores Tai Chi applications and continuation, covering the application of Tai Chi principles in daily life, introductory partner exercises presented for awareness only, and guidance on continuing Tai Chi practice within the UK.
Assessment includes a final exam to evaluate understanding of Tai Chi principles, safety awareness, mindfulness concepts, and foundational movement knowledge.
