Description

Learning outcomes

  • You will know the common characteristics and traits of Autism, and gain an understanding of how the condition affects children, young people, and adults
  • You will be given approaches and strategies that can help children with their learning and development
  • You will understand how best to talk about autism, words to avoid, and the importance of asking individuals and their families for their preference

Advantages of this course

  • There is no cure for autism, and people on the spectrum are not 'unwell' - they are different, and difference should be valued and celebrated in our society. There are, however, many useful strategies and approaches, which have been developed to help a child to improve in some areas that they find challenging. This course will outline interventions, such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), that are recommended for children with Autism.
  • This course considers how Autism can affect communication, social interactions, sensory experiences, coping with the unexpected, and behaviour.
  • Additional activities, resources, websites, and videos encourage you to reflect on the learning
  • There is also suggested extended reading that gives both practical information and links to websites to expand knowledge

On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Laser e-Certificate (included in the course price).
